The City of Winnipeg is planning for infrastructure to make cycling and walking safer, and it’s looking for input from the public.
The city’s Public Works Department has hired Urban Systems Ltd. to research and develop strategies. The first phase has been completed, and included creating neighbourhood profiles, identifying travel patterns, making an inventory of existing pedestrian and cycling infrastructure, and analyzing strategies used in other centres.
It is now beginning the public consultation phase to best plan short- and long-term needs. The company will be holding a telephone survey, but members of the public can ensure their voices are heard by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or participating in the survey at http://www.winnipeg.ca/publicworks/MajorProjects/ActiveTransportation/WalkBikeWinnipeg/default.asp
The project is expected to be completed in early 2014.
