The Corydon Comets U12 C girls’ softball team is headed to provincials after beating their rivals.
"We won gold," said coach Paul DePasquale. "We were just blown away to actually win our final game against the first-place team. To play Riverview twice and to beat them (in) two games was pretty thrilling for the players."
DePasquale said the season started out reasonably well, winning six out of their first 10 games.
"We were a little bit of mixed success and kind of generally played pretty well, but that made the playoffs all the more rewarding," he said DePasquale’s 10-year-old daughter Claire, who plays first base, said her team wasn’t very good at the beginning of the season.
"I didn’t expect to win at all," said Claire of beating Riverview. "I was surprised."
The Corydon Comets are now off to provincials from July 5 to 7.
Claire has a clear game-plan.
"We will play our hardest and best," said Claire. "We’ll cheer, and support each other, and have fun."
