Easy ways to enjoy summer in area
It’s easy to enjoy summer in the Fort Rouge-East Fort Garry ward!
We kick off the summer every year with the biggest and best street festival in Canada: the Canada Day Festival in Osborne Village!
It’s a tradition for people to come to the Village on that day and pack the streets enjoying music, shopping, entertainment, and socializing. This year, the event was a great success and a highlight of the celebrations for Canada Day across the city.
Corydon Avenue is the place to go in the summer to enjoy the shops, restaurants and patios. You see packed streets with people walking their dogs, pushing strollers and visiting along the avenue.
In the summer, every Friday and Saturday from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., there are open air concerts at various spots along Corydon. You can put on your dancing shoes and dance under the stars (people do actually dance) or sit and listen to music with neighbours and friends.
There are also clowns, face painters, magicians, balloon-makers and more. For more information go online at www.corydonbiz.com
In the south Osborne area, the Osborne South BIZ is hosting its 3rd Annual Sidewalk Festival on Sat., Aug. 24.
This family-friendly Sidewalk Festival will run from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Attractions include a petting zoo, restored heritage Transit buses, horse-drawn wagon rides, mascots, groups such as Boy Scouts and Girl Guides, Bike Hub and more. You will see roving clowns, jugglers, and even a barbershop quartet. And new this year is a roving duo and a children’s musician.
During the hot summer weather it is a treat to cool off in a wading pool or splash pad. This year, the City of Winnipeg has increased the operating hours of the Fort Rouge Park splash pad to be open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Fort Garry Lions pool is open starting at 1 p.m. all summer with lessons in the morning. For the traditional and always enjoyable wading pool experience, you can cool off at a variety of local pools. For more info visit www.winnipeg.ca, call 311 or email email@example.com
Not only does Winnipeg have a huge number of summer activities across the city from the Fringe Festival to Folklorama, there is much to do right here in the Fort Rouge- East Fort Garry ward, close to home!
