Great times at the St. Norbert Farmers’ Market
While I enjoy this time of year and all the colours of fall, I always find it sad to watch the St. Norbert Farmers’ Market season come to an end.
As I look back on my summer of shopping for locally-grown and handmade Manitoban products at the St. Norbert Farmers’ Market, I am so happy that we have this treasure close to home, which is both positive for our families and the environment.
The Farmers’ Market was generous enough to allow me to host my free community barbecue at the market early in the summer. It was a great opportunity to give back to the community, serve hundreds of people, and have great conversations with constituents.
On Canada Day, the market and the St. Norbert Community Club came together to put on an amazing day-long event for our community. I enjoyed volunteering and serving hundreds of people at the community club’s free picnic, and later cutting the cake to kick off the special Canada Day event. They finished off the day with an impressive display of fireworks — and all this within walking distance of home.
I was glad to catch the Farmers’ Feast in September. This evening event was at the St. Norbert Farmers’ Market and showcased Manitoba homegrown products as well as talented chefs. With wine glass and napkin in hand, guests can wander through the harvest festival, tasting the very best that Manitoba chefs, brewers and farmers have to offer, all the while enjoying live music. I am looking forward to attending this event next fall, and I highly recommend everyone try it.
You may have noticed all the construction activity in the fields around the market’s site. This is part of a redevelopment plan, among other improvements, that will provide proper drainage to the site and the fields around it in an environmentally responsible way.
I am proud to say that our government is contributing funding to this partnership between community landowners and other levels of government to make the St. Norbert market more family and environmentally-friendly. It is amazing what we can accomplish when we all work together.
We will continue working together to create a better St. Norbert for all our families. If you hear of another amazing local event, please contact me at 204-261-1794 or at Dave.Gaudreau@yourmanitoba.ca and I will do my best to make it out.
