Canstar Community News - ONLINE EDITION
Looking forward to signalled crosswalk
With Spring finally upon us, it’s time to get back to touring the neighbourhoods in the River Heights-Fort Garry ward.
I’m looking forward to visiting neighbourhoods throughout the ward. These walks through the neighbourhood provide me the opportunity to connect with you, get a first-hand assessment and look out for opportunities to support neighbourhood development.
As your city councillor, I’ve developed a neighbourhood-based website, provided neighbourhood-relevant social media information and I continue with many efforts to enhance the uniqueness of each neighbourhood.
Winnipeg’s greatness is based on our unique neighbourhoods and the pride we have in them.
I look forward to seeing the installation of a new signalled crosswalk at Elm and Corydon Ave. After many many years of advocacy by parents, École River Heights School, the Community Centre and various councillors, I was able to secure the approval and funding for installation of the signalled cross walk.
I will also looking forward to work which will be done on Academy Road. The beautification of the streetscape is in partnership with the Academy Road Business Improvement Zone and I am pleased to be able to provide funding and support.
The Province of Manitoba recently increased funding for residential street repair and I am working to ensure that our neighbourhoods get their fair share of the new funding.
I continue to lobby the provincial government to add to the city’s increased efforts to combat Dutch Elm Disease. This year the city allocated additional funds which will allow for increased pruning, rapid removal and replanting. However, more funds and support are needed.
Thank you to everyone that has contacted me about ideas on how we can work together to beautify our neighbourhoods.
