No shortage of things to do in Fort Rouge
Summer is a great time to get out and enjoy our community and neighbourhoods.
From Osborne Village to Corydon and from Grant Park to The Forks, the Fort Rouge constituency includes areas that offer lots of entertainment, shopping and recreation in the summer.
Named one of Canada’s Greatest Neighbourhoods by the Canadian Institute of Planners, Osborne Village is a great place to spend your day. Whether visiting the locally-owned stores and coffee shops or sitting on a patio to enjoy the weather, the Village is always worth a few hours.
Osborne Village is also home to the Gas Station Theatre. The theatre hosts the Village Market and Patio Music Series every Thursday in the summer months, featuring fresh produce from local farmers, handmade jewelry and the talents of local musicians.
Corydon Avenue always has something exciting going on! Every Friday and Saturday evening until Aug. 31 you can attend Dancing on the Avenue, a concert series hosted by the Corydon Avenue Business Improvement Zone. This event is geared towards adults, children and youth of all ages, so bring your family down for dancing, face painting, magicians and balloon makers.
The Forks, also known as Winnipeg’s meeting place, has a variety of activities based on age and ability. The Children’s Museum or The Variety Heritage Adventure Playground offer great entertainment for the kids. If you’re interested in the history of the area, you can visit the Forks Historic Rail Bridge, the Rail Cars and Historic Union Station. The Forks Market and Johnston Terminal are also great places to stop in and look around.
Of course, we can’t forget about some of the great community infrastructure in our area. Our neighbourhood community centres host some great programming, like family fun nights, mom and baby programs, kick-boxing, yoga and more.
The Fort Rouge Spray Pad, co-funded by the province and city, is providing families with a chance to cool off this summer, and our beautiful parks are a great place for children to spend some active time outside.
If you have thoughts to share about our community, feel free to contact my office at 204-946-0272 or at Jennifer.Howard@yourmanitoba.ca. I hope everyone enjoys the rest of their summer and makes lots of memories. See you around the neighborhood!
