Cardio junkies and marathon runners looking to add a few more kilometres to their tally this fall, lace up – registration for the second annual Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Half Marathon is now open.
Race organizers kicked off registration for this year’s race, to be held Sat., Oct. 19, at a launch at the Kenaston Running Room April 2.
Participants in this year’s marathon can run the course for free if they sign up and raise pledges for the Heart and Stroke Foundation, race founder and director Jonathan Torchia said in release. Prizes will be awarded to the top three fundraisers, including a trip for two anywhere in Canada, sponsored by Canada One Travel.
Some 1,600 runners helped raised $25,000 for the Manitoba chapter in its inaugural event last year.
"Our first annual event grew at such a fast pace it was overwhelming yet remarkable," Torchia said in a statement.
"Heart disease and stroke is a leading cause of death for Canadians. With this annual event we hope to raise awareness and funds to help save lives."
The race takes place Sat., Oct. 19.
Those interested can register at any Running Room location in the city, or by visiting wfpshalfmarathon.com.
