Sons of Italy gala dinner to benefit heart research

  • Print

Sons of Italy’s Garibaldi Lodge will hold is 27th annual gala on March 16 at the Winnipeg Convention Centre.

Proceeds from the event will help establish the Canada Italy Tissue Engineering Laboratory (CITEL) at St. Boniface Hospital.

Dr. Paulo Di Nardo, director of the BioLink Institute at the Universita de Roma Tor Vergata, has discovered a way to grow ‘patches’ of ethical stem cells that he believes will help repair damaged heart tissue.

The CITEL project will promote the exchange of faculty members, researchers and students between the two institutions. Italian scientists will visit Winnipeg to share their tissue engineering knowledge at St. Boniface Hospital, who will then apply it to heart failure models currently under investigation at the hospital.

The Sons of Italy gala dinner will feature fine wines, Italian cuisine and entertainment by Las Vegas singer Steve Lippia.

Tickets for the gala are available by calling 204-888-9878.
