The WHS hosted Free Cat Friday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Fri., Aug. 16 and adopted out 209 cats over the course of the event.
Laina Hughes, communications co-ordinator for the WHS, said that’s the highest number of cats they’ve adopted out in a single day, and more than the previous five weeks combined.
The WHS charged no adoption fees for cats more than four months old, and reduced the adoption price for kittens under four months to $25. The normal adoption fee for kittens is $179.
"In July alone, we received 600 cats," said Dean. "Our foster homes are overwhelmed. We have no more foster homes."
