The Corydon Avenue strip has been the place to see and to be seen in Winnipeg for at least three decades. Full of trendy clothing stores, unique shops and amazing restaurants, Corydon offers a diversity of experiences for all who walk the strip. Now the landscape of this seven-block stretch is going through a transformation with new restaurants and shops opening each month.
"The development of many new unique business in the last months speaks to the strength of the street," says Craig Kitching, chairman of the Corydon Avenue BIZ.
"The addition of this diverse group of exciting shops is sure to drive traffic to the area and the synergy created will enhance the whole Corydon experience."
In the past months several new restaurants have opened their doors on Corydon. Mano a Mano and Teo’s, a restaurant and lounge operated by Sam Colosimo —who also runs Brooklynn’s Bistro — offers a relaxed upscale atmosphere where everyone from the professional crowd to beer-drinking buddies can feel comfortable.
Market Burger, also under Colosimo’s direction, is a unique concept, promoting and utilizing everything Winnipeg and Manitoba.
"All of the tables, chairs, and decor were sourced locally," Colosimo says. "The artwork was done by local graffiti artists and we either make or purchase all of our ingredients from within Manitoba."
Other newcomers to the strip include MAKE/Coffee + Stuff, a trendy coffee and tea house that serves delicious cappuccinos in an minimalist setting; Santa Lucia Pizza, which offers a lounge full of big screen TVs for sports; The Tea Story, which features a Death by Chocolate waffle; and Tutti Frutti Frozen Yogurt, a self-serve sundae shop.
Cafe 22 is almost doubling its size with completed renovations expected to be done within six to nine months.
"We chose to move forward with the addition because we believe in the area and our neighbors believe in us," owner Jerry Cianflone says.
New shops and experiences on the strip include Hollow Reed Holistic, which offers natural herbal remedies and therapies; Beautifeye Lashes Inc., a one-stop shop for lash extensions; and Frescolio, a fine oils and vinegars tasting bar where patrons can sample over 40 different oils.
If you are a frequent visitor or haven’t been on the Strip for awhile, there is something new to see and experience.
