Faith Wilson, 12, has an awesome summer gig. It’s something she already loves to do, and she got a free camera out of it.
Wilson, a student at École Noël-Ritchot in St. Norbert, is one of Posterjack.ca’s Summer Kidtographers. There are four in total, but Wilson is the only one from Manitoba, whereas the other three are from across Ontario.
"All summer you take pictures, and every Friday you have to send in five pictures," said Wilson.
PosterJack.ca takes the photos and posts them on its blog. Wilson said she doesn’t have a problem with the Friday deadline because she’s taking photos all the time, anyway.
Her mother, Tenille Wilson, can attest to her daughter’s love of photography.
"I didn’t really have to encourage her (to do photography), she just sort of did it," said Tenille. "When the twins were born Faith was three, and then she started saying ‘oh mommy let’s put them in this position,’ so she’s always kind of been interested in posing them or doing something."
Tenille said the contest is connecting them with family all across the country.
"Her grandpa in Nova Scotia doesn’t get to see her very much so he’s very excited to see what pictures she is coming up with," said Tenille.
Wilson’s favourite subject is nature. The photo that won her a spot in the contest depicted the side of a tree with a park in the background. She started photography two years ago after her mom bought a new camera and gave her the old one. For the contest, Wilson was given a $250 Posterjack.ca gift card, a brand new Fujifilm camera and a memory card.
"She has to return the memory card at the end of the summer (with) all the photos, then they are going to make a virtual gallery," said Tenille.
Wilson doesn’t have a favourite place to take photos, but because she’s the only Manitoban contestant, her mom is driving her all around Manitoba to find as many subjects to photograph as possible.
