WHS wants to spay 100 cats in marathon event

Bring your cat to the May Day Spay Day, and then try to say that five times fast.
The Winnipeg Humane Society is hosting a cat spaying marathon on May 29. Its goal is to spay 100 female cats in eight hours for only $35 each.
"We only want girl cats, because we only want to do spays," said Dr. Erika Anseeuw, director of animal health at the Society. "If people have boy cats that they want to get fixed, that’s not a problem. We’ll just do it on a different day."
Anseeuw said they will be bringing in additional staff, including two extra vets, to run the operation.
"On an average three-hour period we can do 30 to 40 spays on our own," said Anseeuw. "So it’s completely safe."
To be spayed, a cat should be a minimum of four months old, in good health, should have a veterinarian, and be up to date with its vaccinations. Cats must also be brought to the Spay Day in a pet carrier.
In addition to getting spayed the cats will also be tattooed.
As of May 14 there only 40 cats signed up so call 204-888-7627, or stop by the Humane Society.
