It is an exciting time to live in and around Waverley West, as it is likely the one of the most vibrant, rapidly changing regions of Winnipeg.
Anyone travelling along the South Perimeter or Waverley Street cannot help but notice that South Pointe is now stretching close to the highway.
Mike Carruthers, manager of land development at Ladco, described the all the new changes in the area:
"The seventh and final stage of South Pointe has been serviced in 2013 and lots will be released to builders this fall. Two new multiple family developments are under way."
South Pointe does not currently have any rental properties but more condominiums or townhouses may be released in the near future, Carruthers says.
In April 2013 it was announced that the first school for Waverley West will be built in South Pointe, on the southeast corner of Waverley Street.
The school will be a French immersion elementary, and should be able to accommodate up to 600 students. You can check the Pembina Trails School Division website at pembinatrails.ca for more information including a map.
It is expected that the school will be completed in 2016.
A current change to South Pointe and the Bridgwater areas includes the rapid development of the Kenaston extension.
"The construction of Kenaston Boulevard is under way, (the) first phase from Bishop Grandin to Waverley should be completed by the end of 2013, with full extension to the Perimeter Highway by the end of 2014," Carruthers says.
Although residents are eager to know what retail and commercial businesses will be developed in the area, Carruthers was hesitant to name any at this time.
"We are working on plans for South Pointe Phase II which will be west of the Kenaston Boulevard extension. Development is to commence in 2014."
