They played like Trojans — undaunted, dogged and determined — and it paid off handsomely.
The Acadia Grade 8 Axemen basketball team beat Westdale 74-45 to become the 2013-2014 Triano Boys Basketball Champions on Wed., March 19 at the Acadia gym.
The Brandan Zurkan-tutored boys played a great game, fighting hard and strong from the blast of the whistle.
The team’s indomitable spirit is embodied by the short introduction to the institution on the Acadia website:
"Acadia is a school where it’s cool to be smart! Our students work hard and play hard, and consistently represent our school well in national math contests, in sports, in the Manitoba School Science Symposium, at band competitions and everywhere they go. Our staff offers programming to meet every need and clubs to meet every interest — from robotics to debating and jazz band to wrestling, we try it all and have fun doing so!"
No wonder the team dazzled spectators and mesmerized the Westdale basketball team.
