The final buzzer sounds to end another Churchill Bulldogs basketball game. It’s been an up-and-down season for the varsity boys’ team and tonight was a rough one. The guys retreat to the locker room followed by head coach Joseph Jabbie.
Joseph, a former Bulldog student athlete (basketball and football), originally from Sierra Leone, volunteers his time to coach the team. He is assisted by another former Bulldog athlete, Evan Gill, student teacher Matt Nichol and student manager Andrew Fenwick. The coaches had the guys playing strong basketball throughout the season and the team fought hard throughout.
At first I was leery about working with the team as their teacher supervisor — but it’s been an absolute pleasure getting to know these fine young men outside of the regular school setting.
If you’ve ever taken part in extra-curricular sports you’ll know that such pursuits allows you to get to know people in a whole new light and if you have the time and a passion for sports I would strongly suggest it.
As we have now concluded our season I would like to wish the best for the future to all of our Bulldog teams and all the high school coaches and athletes around the league.
Play hard and have fun!
