The ice and snow are slowly melting, the sky is blue and spring is on its way!
March is Nutrition Month and with the changing weather, now is the perfect time to start leading a healthier lifestyle. Making good food choices and keeping active are crucial to staying healthy. Luckily there are lots of resources available to help us learn how.
The Winnipeg Regional Health Authority has lots of great, practical tips for grocery shopping and cooking, along with simple and healthy recipes. You can find out more on their website at www.wrha.mb.ca by checking out the heading "March is Nutrition Month."
Another great resource is Dial-a-Dietician. Call 204-788-8248 to speak with a registered dietician, who can give you free nutrition information and answer your questions about healthy food choices.
Physical activity also plays a big part in a healthy lifestyle. Neighbourhood pool Margaret Grant is newly renovated! The pool has recreational programming, for all members of our community to have fun while staying active, like family swims on Sunday or aquafit during the week. A visit to King’s Park is another wonderful way to enjoy a spring day, whether you’re walking or cycling along the great paths or just getting some fresh air sitting on a bench watching the world go by.
Richmond Kings Community Centre offers activities for all ages. If you’re an older adult, check out everything Pembina Active Living 55+ has to offer at www.pal55plus.ca, or call them at 204-946-0839 to find out more about their active living programs. They offer a variety of courses, from seniors’ yoga, line dancing and zumba to bowling and ballroom dancing!
And if you really want to get active, the countdown is on to the 36th Manitoba Marathon, which will be on June 15 this year. The start line is in our community at the University of Manitoba. Now there’s a reason to eat healthy and get moving!
