A team cannot win without dedication, and this season the Celtics have it in spades.

"They’ve added a spark this year through leadership and the way there are playing," said Adrian Huntley, head coach of the St. Norbert Collegiate Celtics. "The kids have just stepped up, and once a few make those steps and the team starts to go in that direction, it gets contagious."

The Celtics nearly made it to playoffs with an unblemished record, having been undefeated until last week. Though the Celtics are guaranteed a spot in the playoffs, they took on the also-undefeated West Kildonan Wolverines on Oct. 18, losing the game 31-6. The loss left the Celtics with at 6-1 record for the season.

Huntley said the Celtics were unable to execute the way they are capable of and mistakes were made.

"We did some stuff in the game that was great, but both players and coaches made some mistakes at crucial points and that really hurt us," said Huntley.

The Celtics have come back this season a whole new team with solid senior leadership.

Cole Coyston, 16, is an offensive captain and receiver/backup quarterback. He has been on the team three years and hasn’t seen chemistry like this before.

"The chemistry on our team this year is unbelievable," said Coyston. "We have quite a few new faces this year and everyone is doing their part and the team is working a lot better this year compared to last year."

Last year was a dark fourth season for the Celtics. Huntley said the team went 1-6 and at one point he questioned whether his team was having fun anymore.

On Thurs., Oct. 24, St. Norbert will be taking on the Technical Vocational High School Hornets in the quarter-final matchup.  The last time these two teams met on Sept. 26, the Celtics pummelled the Hornets 34-0.
