  • On Sept. 23, Point Douglas Coun. Mike Pagtakhan hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for a playground and park development on the east side of King Edward Community School (825 Selkirk Ave.).
King Edward principal Aaron Benarroch said the approximately $45,000 project, funded by the city, will include a “community circle,” sand and boulders, trees, picnic tables and a “wiggle wall” comprised of tree stumps at different heights for kids to walk on. In November of 2013, a $400,000 playground was completed on the west side of King Edward, which was funded by the city and province, as well as the Richardson Foundation, Winnipeg Foundation, Manitoba Hydro, The Thomas Sill Foundation and community members. Work on the new park began after the ceremony.
