Give cancer a kick in the rear

  • Print

An upcoming fundraiser is continuing to kick cancer in the butt.

Registration for the 6th annual Kick Butt Walk or Run for Colorectal Cancer taking place in Sept. 7 at Kildonan Park is open to the public, organizers say.

The event, with a three-kilometre and five-kilometre option, is free of charge for participants, who are instead asked to raise money that will go to support the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation.

All proceeds go directly to colorectal cancer awareness, advocacy and supports for those battling the disease.

About 423 Canadians are diagnosed with and 175 die from colorectal cancer each week, making it the third most common cancer and second most common cause of death from cancer for Canadians, according to Colon Cancer Canada.

The cancer is 90% preventable and highly treatable if detected in its early stages, the organization says.

Donation receipts will be issued for all donations over $15.
