The Manitoba chapter of the Canadian Community Economic Development Network recently snagged a sustainability award from the province.
Last week, Conservation and Water Stewardship Minister Gord Mackintosh announced the organization was a recipient of a 2012 Manitoba Excellence in Sustainability Award for its sustainability education programming, according to a provincial release.
The local chapter, headquartered at 765 Main St., is a network of community organizations including the Aboriginal Council of Winnipeg, the North End Community Renewal Corp., NorWest Co-op Community Health and the Point Douglas Residents Committee, to name a few.
The network was recognized for its outreach work through newsletters, public workshops and other education events. Many groups have committed themselves to purchasing from local and social enterprises, the release notes.
