The YMCA-YWCA of Winnipeg salutes local peacemakers for their dedication and for inspiring others to take action to create a more just and peaceful world.
More than the absence of war, peace requires the recognition and provision of basic human rights and needs. Peacemakers create these positive changes and foster social responsibility.
All peacemakers are stars in their own right, and deserve to have a spotlight shone upon them. A way to recognize and celebrate deserving and selfless peacemakers in our community is to nominate them for a YMCA Peace Medal.
I encourage everyone who knows a peacemaker to nominate him or her for a Peace Medal. We welcome nominations of Winnipeggers — either individuals or groups — who, without any special resources, demonstrate a commitment to peace through contributions made within their community or overseas. The deadline for nominations is Oct. 18.
The Peace Medal will be awarded during YMCA Peace Week — a weeklong opportunity in November where Winnipeggers join in activities focused on exploring peace from a personal, local and global perspective. During YMCA Peace Week, we’ll highlight shining examples of people who demonstrate how they make our communities and world healthier, safer, more equitable and sustainable.

Yours in peace,
CEO, YMCA-YWCA of Winnipeg
