Savour great food, make friends at co-op
Food is a main ingredient in any attempt at community building and renewal.
Food on the table usually provides an open invitation for people to join the effort to renew friendships and "break bread" with strangers who later on become friends.
The communities of Tyndall Park, Weston and Brooklands will soon share a kitchen at Winnipeg’s very first food centre, a place commonly called the NorWest Co-op Community Food Centre right on Tyndall and Chudley, in the northwest part of the city.
The facility will provide an opportunity for members of these and other communities to enjoy nutritious food fresh from gardens in the area, and learn more about each other as they congregate.
The outdoor barbecue and oven will, for those so inclined, provide the opportunity to savour and taste an amazing array of smoked bacon and fish, and other healthy and delicious foods.
The facility is about a three-minute walk from the nearby Shaughnessy Park playgrounds and football field.
I hope that such quality of life initiatives will be welcomed with open hearts and minds, and that the communities will enjoy them to the fullest.
