An upcoming mega yard sale at Tec Voc School is hoping to raise the money needed to send students to a national skills and technology competition in Vancouver later this year.
On Sat., May 11, the school will hold its Skills Canada Competition Fundraiser, selling everything from jewelry, plants, vintage items, baking and crafts.
Proceeds from the sale will be used to send three students to Vancouver from June 5 to 8 to compete in the Skills Canada Competition.
Started in 1994, the event is an "Olympic-style" contest between more than 500 Canadian students testing their mettle in more than 40 different trade and technology areas.
Categories include robotics, cooking, carpentry, hairstyling, job interviewing and autobody repair, among others.
Organizers are looking for vendors to sell any home-based products, crafts, food and garage sale items. Tables are $25 each.
A community barbecue including hot dogs and ice cream will also be held.
The school raised $2,000 at its sale last year and is hoping to match, if not beat, that total this year, organizers say.
