Kilcona Park Dog Club is grateful for late summer’s high temperatures aheadof its 10th annual fall barbecue on Sat., Sept. 7.
The event raises funds for improving the off-leash area of the dog park. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. park visitors will be entertained by a variety of events.
Donna Henry, president of KPDC, says the food at the event will be spectacular.
"JD Hoggs, a gold sponsor of the club, is a boutique smoker and provides all the hot dogs and smokies, which are custom smoked and gluten- and lactose-free", Henry explains.
Other notable activities include face painting for kids by Heather Vandenberg, a realtor with Royal LePage Prime, a platinum sponsor. Coun. Jeff Browaty (North Kildonan), also a platinum sponsor, will speak and guests can also expect fun giveaways from PetValu. For those interested in adding pets to their families, a variety of dogs from local shelters will be on hand.
Henry says volunteers will still be able to bring their pets due to doggy day care assistance from Dogfather Pet Services.

KPDC currently has over 500 members, compared to 35 members just two years ago. The support from the community has been enormous, especially over the past few months following the announcement about the uncertain future of the off-leash area of the park. For only $5, a membership provides discounts at 17 corporate sponsor businesses and services.
In September and October all new or renewing members will be entered to win a $50 gift card to Alpine Animal Hospital, or a $25 gift card to Sprockett’s Doggy Day Camp. The draw will be held at the AGM in November. Henry hopes the club’s membership base might even double by next year.
Henry is looking forward to a meeting this fall at which a new plan for the redevelopment of Kilcona Park will be unveiled.
