Canstar Community News - ONLINE EDITION
A new face at The Times
Now begins the next step in my grand adventure.
I became The Times’ newest reporter on Oct. 29, and it’s about time I introduced myself.
I’ve been a journalist for six years now, having graduated from Red River College’s Creative Communications program in 2006.
From there, I travelled west to Drumheller, Alta., where I worked as a beat reporter for two years before returning home to Manitoba. I spent the last four and a half years as an editor in Manitoba’s Interlake region, and eventually decided it was time to get back to writing full-time.
When I saw a chance to be a reporter for Canstar Community News, I jumped, and I’m happy to be here.
I look forward to the challenge of reporting on the news of north Winnipeg. It will be the largest community I’ve ever covered. I’m a small-town guy from the start (I grew up in Killarney), but I’ve spent the better part of the last decade living in Winnipeg, and I’m here for good now.
During these first couple of weeks, I’ve had the opportunity to meet a few people, who have all been very gracious and friendly as I get used to the new beat.
I’m a community-minded guy and I like to tell the stories about the unsung heroes on our streets who give of themselves freely to help out their neighbourhood.
I want to hear your stories, and I’m eager to tell those stories to others. Got a news tip about north Winnipeg? Give me a call at (204) 697-7132 or send me an email at darren.ridgley@canstarnews.com.
My door is always open. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
