NEW YORK, N.Y. - As New York City looks past the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, community members and officials say a performing arts centre is vital to the continued rebirth of the World Trade Center site.

The city says a new board will be formed by the end of the year that will oversee the creation of an arts centre.

But construction is at least six years away because a temporary entrance to a train station sits on the site.

Architect Daniel Libeskind's master plan always envisioned a performance space that would return life to a site devastated by terrorism.
