The future of Charleswood-Tuxedo
The recent death of Coun. Bill Clement (Charleswood-Tuxedo) doesn’t mean that the ward will be left unattended.
While Clement’s seat on council, which he occupied since 1983, will remain unfilled until the civic election in October, a spokesperson for Mayor Sam Katz’s office said that matters will be looked after.
"What the mayor has decided and had offered to Bill Clement was that he would personally take all of his calls and emails," the spokesperson said.
Other members of the Assiniboia community committee and the public works committee that Clement sat on will also provide input on issues in the ward, the spokesperson added.
Coun. Scott Fielding (St. James-Assiniboia) acknowledged that it’s not a perfect scenario.
However, he said that both he and Coun. Grant Nordman (St. Charles) will try to take Clement’s views into consideration when it comes time for the community committee to make decisions on issues in the Charleswood-Tuxedo ward.
"I would like to think our decisions would reflect what we think Bill would want done in those areas," Fielding said.
The next Assiniboia community committee meeting is scheduled for May 18.
