Dauphin-Swan River-Marquette re-elects Sopuck

For second time in a matter of months, Bob Sopuck has claimed the Parkland riding of Dauphin-Swan-River-Marquette for the federal Conservatives.

The rancher and former Free Press outdoors columnist was first elected in November in a federal byelection called after the retirement of former MP Inky Mark. In a wide-open race, he defeated NDP's Denise Harder by 4,391 votes.

This time around, Sopuck expanded on that victory, dispatching the NDP's Cheryl Osborne by what was heading toward a larger margin at press time.

"I'm getting the hang of this campianing thing," Sopuck said from Dauphin last night. "I really enjoyed this particular campaign, except for the storm two days before the election."

Sopuck said he's know looking forward to having ample time represent his constituents in Ottawa.

"I had a taste for it the first four months, but having four-year time horizon is a welcome prospect," he said.

Liberal Wendy Menzies and Kate Storey of the Greens also ran in the riding.
