'I don't endorse any candidate,' says Axworthy after photo used in Tory flyer

WINNIPEG - University of Winnipeg president Lloyd Axworthy says he did not endorse Conservative candidate Joyce Bateman or any other candidate in the upcoming federal election, despite the use of his image in campaign literature.

Earlier today, Liberal MP Anita Neville called on Bateman to apologize for using a photo of Axworthy without permission in campaign flyers distributed in the Winnipeg South Centre ward.

Axworthy, a former Liberal cabinet minister, said the photo was taken when Bateman was chair of the Winnipeg School Board. He said the U of W routinely meets with heads of various school divisions.

"In the position I hold, I don’t endorse any candidate in any election," Axworthy said.
