Flood crest prediction lowered; could mean Highway 75 will stay open
The Monday-morning update from the U.S. National Weather Service provides even more hope Highway 75 will not close this spring due to flooding.
The U.S. weather office’s hydrologic prediction service expects the Red River to crest at the Canada-U.S. border on May 11 at 47.5 feet, more than a foot below the crest of the 2001 spring flood.
In 2001, Highway 75 did not close between Morris and Emerson, which sits at the U.S. border.
Last week, the U.S. National Weather Service reduced its crest prediction for the border to 49 feet, a level roughly equal to the 2001 crest. As a result, Manitoba Infrastructure and Transportation said Friday Highway 75 may not close this year.
