Walmart donates $20K to Manitoba flood relief

Red Cross launches helpline for evacuees

Walmart Canada has made a $20,000 donation to support the Red Cross in addressing the needs of those affected by the Manitoba flooding.

"Walmart Canada consistently provides generous financial support for our disaster relief efforts," said Jane Hunt, provincial director of the Canadian Red Cross in Manitoba.

"When a natural disaster occurs, Walmart Canada and its associates are quick to respond," said John Lawrence, director of corporate social responsibility for Walmart Canada.

The Red Cross has opened a family-reunification line to assist evacuees and their friends and family. Anyone who plans to evacuate their home, or has already done so, should register by calling the Canadian Red Cross toll-free at 1-888-662-3211. Families of evacuees can call to find out how to contact their loved ones.

The volunteer-staffed line will be operational for the remainder of the flooding in Manitoba.

Financial donations in support of Manitoba Flood Response can be made by calling 1-800-418-1111, or online at www.redcross.ca, or at your local Red Cross office at Unit 3-613 10th Street in Brandon, or 1111 Portage Avenue in Winnipeg.

Please make your cheque or money order to "The Canadian Red Cross" and identify on the cheque or money order that it is for "Manitoba Flood Response."
