Red's peak lowered again: flood forecaster

WINNIPEG - Officials have lowered the peak forecast for the Red River, chief flood forecaster Phillip Mutulu said today.

The upper range of the forecast peak for the river is now below 2009 levels for all points on the river.

The crests of the Red and Assiniboine River in Winnipeg are anticipated to coincide April 30.

Mutulu said favourable weather has helped lower the flood threat in the Red River Valley.

Emergency Measures Minister Steve Ashton added 597 municipal roads in the province are closed because of flooding. Amother 78 provincial roads are affected by flooding and 45 are closed or restricted to local access only.
