THE 40th edition of Folklorama isn't coasting on past glory.

Folklorama executive director Ron Gauthier said on Thursday that there are numerous new attractions coming next month to the city's annual multicultural festival including a brand new pavilion and musical acts from around the world.

The Columbian pavilion is new to the festival, launching in the festival's first week, beginning Aug. 2.

"Forty years old and we have a brand new festival pavilion -- we're excited about that," Gauthier said.

There are 41 pavilions this year spread around in arenas and community centres across the city.

Folklorama ends on Aug. 15.

Gauthier said the festival is bringing back the popular entry passport, but in an enhanced form.

"It is $150 and it includes an individual's photo," he said.

"It gives you unlimited access to pavilions and lets you skip lineups."

Back after an absence are the Mexican and Indo-China pavilions, while Cuba is back organized with a new group of volunteers.

Musical acts from around the world include the Folklore de Mi Tierra, from Colombia, as well as performers from Cuba, Russia and Portugal.

"The Columbian pavilion is new to the festival..."

Please, it's "Colombian"!

I am currently in Medellin Colombia with my Colombian wife. She was very happy to see this article and looking forward to visiting the Colombian pavilion (and others), next summer when we will be in Winnipeg.
