Daffable: A smooshing together of "daffy" and relentlessly "affable."
That’s the only word to describe Vancouver’s Tara Travis as Lavignia, the eight-foot-three, 380-pound giant of an eight-year-old girl who wants nothing more than to fit in. She decides: "Ballet is gonna fix me!" But when the class doesn’t exactly welcome her, she runs away and finds herself far from home on a quest to defeat an evil queen.
The statuesque Travis brings the lovable and unwavering playfulness of her inner ballerina to the stage. This family-friendly production had an opening-day audience composed entirely of adults laughing their way through Lavignia’s adventure. What this show needs is some kids in the seats!
