Full of dick jokes (both the P.I. kind and the male-genitalia kind), a ridiculous amount of similes, magic and a bit of audience participation, this detective comedy was attention-grabbing from the moment it started.
Det. Dirk Darrow, played by Aussie Tim Motley, impressed with his slick-talking and unabashed laugh-pandering, keeping running commentary on how well (or not so well) his jokes were performing. He is extremely funny though, seamlessly adapting to unexpected situations and making the most of inside jokes created and rehashed with the audience all within 60 minutes.
His tricks were impressive too, using both sleight of hand and mind-reading to add a whole other level of entertainment value. It’s like a comedic take on a film noir and a magic show all rolled up into one glorious package.
Sometimes though, the quick-talking detective was a bit too quick-talking, making it hard to understand parts of the detailed and hilarious narrative he was attempting to unfold.
