Another wildly entertaining improv game of Dungeons and Dragons is afoot, with a big, strong cast of Do-gooders and Evildoers suiting up for battle in this sequel to the 2006 fringe hit.

Local fathers of improv Stephen Eric McIntyre and Rob Slade — who is literally father to fellow player RobYn Slade — were surprise guests on opening night and you never know who will turn up to do astute dungeon-master Dave Kitchen’s bidding.

The well-developed characters — including a teen wizard whose magic powers failed to kick in at puberty, a hot goddess of love who can turn back time, a ninja assassin and a drunken dwarf — continue the story serial-style over seven performances, with a fast recap to let new audiences catch up before each show.

Each segment is improvised, but Kitchen is truly master of the game, keeping a tight rein on the action, suggesting fresh scenarios and — with help from do-gooder volunteers — determining the success of each move by rolling dice.

At the end of the first hour, he stepped in at just the right cliffhanger moment to halt the proceedings and lay the groundwork for the sequel.
