Let’s be honest. Shakespeare done badly is boring.
Despite a ton of energy, a glam-rock theme and one good Touchstone (Liam Berry), this student production of Shakespeare’s gender-bending love comedy drags.
I wish it didn’t. The huge cast gives ’er. The sexy, funny text is tailor-made for young people. And the staging is smart, especially the trees, where Orlando (Zachary Ferguson-Baird) pens poems for his love Rosalind (Hannah Beynon).
It just falls victim to so many Shakespeare traps — tricky lines delivered at warp-speed, a lot of hollering and stomping around that is supposed to represent angst and moments where, if you don’t know the play, you’d lose the threads of the plot.
And, no matter the setting, teenage girls squealing is possibly the single most annoying sound in the universe.

From the thrilling young thespians that brought you The Tempest (Best in Fest, 2012), the Knavish Hedgehogs are back, presenting Shakespeare's delightful romantic comedy As You Like It. Follow suitors, shepherds, clowns, cross-dressers and courtiers as they find their way into the mysterious Forest of Arden where wits are many and love is just around the corner!
