Ask Aggie - The Advice Diva
Advice expert Aggie, played by Edmonton-based Christine Lesiak, solicits question about life, love and sex from the lost and confused in her audience. Her off-the-cuff wisdom, stockpiled from five marriages to husbands who met untimely ends, may not solve anyone’s problems but are supposed to make the rest of us forget ours.
The entertainment value is completely dependent on Lesiak’s improvisational skills and the playfulness of outgoing spectators. In an Ottawa performance neither were very engaging. The premise also lacks any visual focus, so Lesiak makes the goofy decision to contort her body in a different way each time she plucks a question out of the box.
As a safeguard against lulls in the witty repartee, Lesiak livens the hour by answering previous letters with musical numbers like A Vibrator is a Girls’s Best Friend and Cheater, a re-written version of Fever. Ask Aggie raises the question as to what she should do to spice up her stage life.
