Winnipeg Free Press - ONLINE EDITION
Vancouver’s Veenesh Dubois returns from the triumph of her 2011 hit Under the Mango Tree with another one-woman show designed to elicit laughter and tears. Mostly tears.
Bulls Heart is a reference to a different fruit, ugly and intimidating on the outside. And so it is with Dubois’s heroine, a harsh executive who has made some regrettable choices to get to the top.
When her mom gives her a plane ticket to rural India to meet an important woman from her infancy, she is set up for a shocking but redemptive revelation.
Over the course of an hour, Dubois incrementally draws the audience into the heart of this unpleasant character so that by the drama’s end, you are subject to a sweet emotional wallop.
