Cabaret Terrarium
Many will fondly remember the New York comedy duo of Richard Harrington and Chris Kauffman from their fringe appearances here in 2000 and 2002.
Well, they’re back with their goofy alter egos Gustave (Harrington) and Nhar (Kauffman) in a wacky hour-long musical travelogue that takes them from Norway to Colombia, with mysterious killers and wooden frogs to add to the confusion.
Gustave is the one who talks, sings and plays the ukulele and the concertina. Tall, skinny and deadpan, he channels Steven Wright and Andy Kaufman, not to mention Peter Sellers and John Cleese.
Nhar rarely opens his mouth; instead he lets his body do the talking with an inspired vocabulary of slapstick and pantomime that recalls everyone from Marcel Marceau to Buster Keaton.
— Morley Walker
From the official Fringe Festival program:
Harrington & Kauffman are back in this epic comedy of amnesia and redemption featuring Belgian cabaret singer Gustave and his associate Nhar, from the Fringe hits Hotel California (2000) and Nharcolepsy (2002).
"Richard Harrington and Chris Kauffman raise the level of comedy to a high art" - Robert Enright, The Globe and Mail
