Winnipeg Free Press - ONLINE EDITION
Daves of Their Lives
This uncomfortably caustic, cocktail-drenched soap-opera spoof, tightly written by Dale Watts, features a relentlessly bitchy wife (played with relish by Cheryl Gensiorek), a wretch of a husband (Rob Haacke), an interfering mother-in-law (Kay Masse), a broke adult daughter (Kristen Brown) and a mysterious other woman (Sara Arenson) — all the ingredients for a serial meltdown.
The mood is brittle to the breaking point as the players trade cruel barbs over money, sex and menopause. Where’s the inheritance? Will Dave take up with Mandy? What is it Mandy sees in David? Will Lily ever put her glass down? What is Daphne so afraid of? What is Leona’s secret and does she know she has one? How will this cornball story end? Like a soap opera, of course.

From the Fringe program:
In this mild spoof of soap operas, a formerly successful but mentally exhausted businessman - stuck in a loveless marriage, continually henpecked by his prematurely menopausal wife, exploited by his stepmother, manipulated by his daughter and intimidated by a now-deceased father - begins to believe he might find happiness when a sultry young woman enters his life.
