Winnipeg Free Press - ONLINE EDITION
Winnipeg storyteller Leigh-Anne Kehler brings her accomplished narrative skills to the stage in five separate tales from around the world, woven together under the theme of fire. Whether sharing local legends, folklore from India and Micronesia or myths from the Appalachian coal mines, Kehler, with nary more than a red scarf, illuminates the stage with her presence.
An appealing performer, she needs no more than her voice to give these stories life. Although the transitions between the tales could use a bit more spark, Kehler nonetheless draws us in and breathes life into her characters before our very eyes. Sometimes tragic, sometimes playful, always heroic, these characters are fascinating on their own, but with Kehler performing her own bit of fiery alchemy, they burn brightly in our imaginations.
