The venue may be a church, but Winnipeg magician Greg Wood is no (Criss) Angel.

That’s a good thing. Wood is an affable, unpretentious gent who lets his designated kid audience know magic is artful deception. He proceeds to entertain them with an hour of magic tricks that wouldn’t be out of place in a shag-carpeted, panelled basement — although his guillotine-like contraption that cuts vegetables and threatens to julienne little Johnny is a wrinkle we never saw in the rec room.

In his third year at the fringe, Wood shows he knows how to utilize kids as volunteers to wring maximum laughs from the young ’uns and their parents. The show is secular, unless you count the Veggie Tales pre-show and the mid-show commercial for Calvary Temple.
