Homeless
Each person who comes through the door is greeted with a smile — and an often reluctant pat-down.
It’s part of the routine for the troubled patrons of the homeless shelter Jeremy Baumung brings vividly to life in Homeless, an absorbing story of addiction and faith drawn from his own stint as a shelter worker in Edmonton.
The Saskatoon-born playwright and actor fills the stage in this one-man show, inhabiting a diverse group of shelter patrons and bringing their heartbreaking stories to life with skill and compassion.
His reflections on God and religion feel a little clumsy next to his compelling portrayals of the people who find themselves at the shelter of last resort, but the strength of their stories is enough to keep audiences riveted.
— Lindsey Wiebe
