Portland, Ore., performer Stacey Hallal is an appealing blend of likable, goofy and cool, and so is her 60-minute one-woman show, a mix of standup comedy, video interludes, sketches, mime and poignant monologues about her search for joy.
The standup portions are the most successful; Hallal may plumb familiar subject matter but her punchlines still have punch (her off-the-wall ideas for sexy “tramp stamp” tattoos are hilarious). Her clownish attempt to learn hip-hop dancing is dorkily charming. But the video sections are uneven and the piecemeal quality of the show drags the pace down — more effort should have gone into creating a stronger throughline that would lend more meaning to the moving moments.
