Portland, Ore., performer Stacey Hallal is an appealing blend of likable, goofy and cool, and so is her 60-minute one-woman show, a mix of standup comedy, video interludes, sketches, mime and poignant monologues about her search for joy.

The standup portions are the most successful; Hallal may plumb familiar subject matter but her punchlines still have punch (her off-the-wall ideas for sexy “tramp stamp” tattoos are hilarious). Her clownish attempt to learn hip-hop dancing is dorkily charming. But the video sections are uneven and the piecemeal quality of the show drags the pace down — more effort should have gone into creating a stronger throughline that would lend more meaning to the moving moments.

— Jill Wilson

From the Fringe program:

In her solo comedy show Irregardless, comedian Stacey Hallal moves effortlessly from sketches to stand-up, songs to storytelling, delivering smart, sharp insights with such wit and charm that you never even feel the sting.

"Irregardless is funny, well-conceived and, for a comedy show, unexpectedly poignant." - WW

"Hallal is sharp, irreverent and a bit nerdy, with great comedic range, but what sets this show apart are the moments of fragile sincerity embedded in the jokes." - Portland Mercury
