Winnipeg Free Press - ONLINE EDITION
Winnipeg choreographer Nina Patel takes viewers on a poetic Jurn.e, er, journey by re-envisioning her earlier contemporary work from 2011.
Dancers Rachelle Bourget, Carol-Ann Bohrn, Ekaterina Likhotin, Alexandra Scarola and Patel in white filmy dresses support each other during their own personal stories, portrayed as a series of distinctive solos laced throughout the show.
Patel’s evocative imagery is not soon forgotten: the ensemble standing in flock formation evokes the freedom of soaring birds. Likhotin pouring water over her head suggests her own ritual baptism. Effective video projections and a seamless electronic score only add to the absorbing, right-brain experience.
Some movement is overly repetitive -- there’s a lot of running in circles, for example. And the show billed as one-hour duration actually clocks in at 40 minutes. But two years later, Jurn.e is now the show that was meant to be, with dance lovers wise to pick up the trail with Patel and her gifted performers once again.

From the Fringe program:
JURN.E presents the world as seen through the eyes of 5 women travelling through time. The Lime Project Dance Company's highly trained dancers capture the ebb and flow of life in this reflective work in 17 movements as the women dance - pushing their physical extremes and emotional limits testing the capacity for delving inside themselves. From one moment to the next, moving seamlessly between present and past, the audience will be taken on a JURN.E.
