MC Jabber’s one-man show is a bit of a strange bird, albeit with an exotic pedigree. The Berlin-based Brit is a vocalist with the band Blue Foundation (whose songs have been featured in the movie Twilight and in the TV series The O.C.) and the U.K.’s first-ever National Poetry Slam champion.

What we have here is an hour of standup comedy interspersed with bouts of breathless, stream-of-consciousness poetry from a man who looks like he just rolled out of bed but, judging from the contents of his "magpie mind," probably doesn’t sleep much.

He has a knack for observational humour, but there’s a lot of filler among the shiny bits and the pace kind of drags. As for the poems, they might be gems, but Jabber’s soft voice and machine-gun delivery make it hard to tell.

Still, the guy certainly has the gift of the gab — the way a hummingbird has the gift of flight. He never soars, but watching him hover can be pretty hypnotic.

— Carolin Vesely

Polyphonic post-rapper MC Jabber, the first ever UK National Poetry Slam Champion and Blue Foundation’s male vocalist (tracks featured on the movies Miami Vice and Twilight) debuts in Canada with his quirky and erudite blend of over-rehearsed ad-libs and pre-emptive encores.
