In this heartfelt family drama, written and performed by a trio of emerging Winnipeg actors, three young women deal with their mother’s death and the tangle of secrets, lies and regrets it uncovers.
The play’s "day of the funeral" setup isn’t exactly original, but strong performances give it insight and emotional warmth. Wren Hookey is the harassed, caretaking oldest sister, Teri-Lynn Friesen is the delusionally "perfect" middle sister, while Hailley Rhoda plays the angry, precocious baby of the family.
While the writing sometimes falters when approaching the big themes of "life, love and loss," it does well with concrete details, particularly the deft dissection of sibling dynamics.
