Australian Ross Vegas is an entertaining storyteller.
Of course, 20 years as a poor-but-happy street performer makes for some interesting anecdotes. But Vegas throws in the bonus of creating his own musical accompaniment on the spot, thanks to some neat vocal percussion and a loop pedal. And did I mention the stilts, balancing stunts and acrobatics? There’s something compelling about a man discussing a deteriorating personal relationship while balancing on a wobbling tower of chairs.
The only real nitpick is the video screened at the end, projected behind the audience, forcing people to turn backwards in their seats to view it. Not only is it awkward physically, its swearing and brief nudity are out of character with the rest of the show, and come across as unnecessary filler.
At 46 minutes, this is a neat little extra to fit in your fringe schedule, and probably unlike anything else you’ll see.
