There’s a lot to cheer about in this second annual showcase by three self-starter female grads of the School of Contemporary Dancers.

For one, they’ve got three male guest performers, and though they’re still training at SCD, any appearance of men in local modern dance is a thrill. Check out tiny-but-fierce Ardley Zozobrado’s soaring leaps in the dynamic closing piece.

Dance works turn to dust if they’re not performed. Drive Dance is beautifully keeping alive the artistry of two senior Winnipeg choreographers, Stephanie Ballard and Gaile Petursson-Hiley. Each contributes three works. The hour-long program has something for every taste, from a quirky comic charmer set to Elvis tunes to an intense trio with a femme-fatale flavour.

The loveliest work is reborn from 1989 — Mara, a magical solo that Ballard created for the legendary Margie Gillis. Dancer Kathleen Hiley becomes a bewitching mermaid in this myth-like stunner. Never mind bringing back the Jets. Drive Dance has brought back a Winnipeg stage classic.

Their "wildly sensational debut" earned Best of Fringe in 2010 with 4 STARS from the Winnipeg Free Press and CBC Manitoba.
